On Blogspot I moderate comments; on WordPress I have the Akismet plugin that puts suspicious looking comments on hold and lets your regular commenters through. It works really well...I'm still deleting the spam manually to make sure no real commenters are missed, but there's an automatic delete feature that makes it even easier. It just boggles my mind how many comments the spambots generate in a day's time... I wish I had that many real visitors! Good luck!
